I/Y is a subjective statistic derived from dividing the number of issues that appear in modern scholarship (I) by the number of years of the interval in which they were minted (Y). Despite the methodological problems inherent to this statistic, we have decided to display it as a very rough proxy for the complexity of minting in a certain mint and period, which is in turn a proxy for the amount of coins minted. We expect to refine this statistic over FLAMEās Phase II: Circulation. In the meanwhile, we suggest using the I/Y statistic as a measure of different mint output only when it is different by at least an order of magnitude.
